The article
Spent a lot on a website, and it still looks dated and brings nothing? It is a common story: a business owner paid a freelancer or an agency, waited for months, and got a site that is slow on a phone, hard to change and invisible in Google.
I have been building software for 18 years, and my team has delivered 150+ projects since 2017. For $499 I put that experience into a small business website. This is the fixed-price package among our web development services. Below is exactly how our affordable website development services work: what you get, what you do not get and what each extra costs - nothing is hidden in the fine print.
Affordable website development: the short version
| What | How it works |
|---|---|
| Price | $499, paid upfront |
| First version | 5 business days after the payment and your materials |
| Pages | Up to 20 - more than most small businesses need |
| Design | Your colors on our template, up to three complete redesigns included |
| Support | $29 a month, billed annually ($348), from launch |
| Yours | The code, the content, the domain and the analytics |
What you get for $499
- A design in your colors that works on a phone, a laptop and a wide screen.
- Up to 20 pages: services, prices, about, contacts, a gallery - whatever your business needs to show.
- An admin where you change every text, picture and page yourself, any time.
- Basic SEO on every page: titles and descriptions, a sitemap, Google Search Console, structured data for Google and a preview for every link shared in a messenger or a social network.
- Fast pages: pictures sized for each screen, compressed and loaded as the visitor scrolls.
- Google Analytics connected, so you see who comes and from where.
- A contact form, your domain with https, and the launch.
What is not in the $499 - and what it costs
Affordable web development only works when the scope is honest. These cost extra:
- Online payments on the site - plus $500.
- An online booking system - plus $500.
- Other features - accounts, integrations, several languages - priced the same way, before any work starts.
- A fully custom design made without our templates and AI tools, or a truly unique idea - billed by the hour or by milestones after an estimate.
- Writing or entering large amounts of content, and hosting video or large downloads (a video lives on YouTube or Vimeo and plays on your site).
If your site needs one of these, you know the price before you pay, not after.
How it goes
- You pay $499 and send your materials - the logo, the texts, the photos, sites you like. Paying upfront is what lets us start right away, without proposals and back-and-forth.
- The first version comes in 5 business days. You see the whole site, not a sketch.
- Up to three complete redesigns. Each round takes one list of comments and adds 3 business days. Our own mistakes are fixed for free and do not use a round.
- You accept the site. You have 3 business days to review each version.
- Launch. You get the archive of the site, pay $348 for the first year of hosting and support, and the site goes live on your domain.
Most sites are live within two weeks; the exact date depends on how fast the materials and the comments come.
What the support plan covers
Support is $29 a month, billed annually - $348 a year, paid at launch. It covers:
- Hosting on our servers with https: 1 GB for your files and data and 20 GB of traffic a month, more than a typical small business site uses. 5 GB and 100 GB cost $120 a year more, and never without your approval.
- Any bug in our work, fixed at our expense.
- Changes to the texts and pictures on your pages: one list at a time, each done within 3 business days.
- Backups and updates on our side.
- Watching your site's uptime and your domain's renewal date, so neither surprises you.
We respond within 3 business days. The plan renews automatically every year; to cancel, email us at least 30 days before the renewal date. More on website maintenance.
Who owns the site
This is where a cheap web development company hurts people most, so here is how it works with us:
- The code and the design. Once the site is paid for and done, the code and the design made for it are yours. You get an archive with the code, the files, a data export and the notes to deploy it - you can move the site to another host. Help with the move is priced separately.
- The domain. You register and pay for it yourself, so it is in your name from day one. If you already have one, we connect it.
- Analytics and Search Console. If you have the accounts, we work in yours. If not, we create them and give you access, and we hand everything over the day you leave - no questions asked.
- If you stop paying. The site goes offline at the end of the paid year, and we keep a copy for three months, so you can take it or come back.
One honest note: the site is built on our own templates and components, and we may reuse layouts in other projects - never your brand, your texts or your data. If you need a design no one else will ever have, that is a custom website, not a $499 one.
Why it can cost $499
A person works in a pair with AI. We do not train AI on our clients' code; we build into our AI agents the best practices my team has arrived at over the years. The routine part - the layout, the code, the checks - goes fast; the design decisions and the final review stay with people. That is how the price, the timeline and the quality of our affordable web development services fit together.
The same pipeline built Somatic Reset, live 8 days after its plan was approved; BND, 108 pages in three languages two days after the first commit; Muzychko Vocal School, deployed on its first day; and Build Wise Investments, which scores 100 in Google's Lighthouse on a phone. More on where AI actually speeds up a build.
What a cheap website development company skips - and how to check yours
Before writing about others, I measured them. In October 2026 I looked at five affordable web design pages that Google shows for these searches. On all five, most pictures come in one size for every screen; two load all their pictures at once (26 and 41 of them) without the browser's own lazy loading; one has no description on any of its 45 images. Five pages are a small sample, so take it as a reason to check your site, not as a statistic.
| What | Why it matters | How to check | Ours |
|---|---|---|---|
| A link preview picture | A link to your site in WhatsApp or LinkedIn shows a card, not a bare line | Send the link to yourself in WhatsApp | Every page |
| Pictures sized for the screen | A phone does not download a picture made for a wide monitor | Lighthouse: "Properly size images" | Every picture |
| Lazy loading without jumps | The first screen opens faster, and the text does not jump | Lighthouse: "Defer offscreen images" | Every picture |
| Picture descriptions | Screen readers and Google understand your pictures | Lighthouse: Accessibility | Every picture |
| Uptime watched | You learn about an outage from us, not from a client | Ask who notices when the site goes down | While support runs |
| The domain in your name | Whoever owns the domain owns your address and your email | Your registrar account | Always |
| The code handed over | You can change developers without starting over | The contract and the archive | At launch |
When a $499 site is not for you
- You want to build and edit everything yourself and never call anyone: a builder like Wix or Squarespace will do, and it is a fine choice.
- You sell hundreds of products online: that is a store project with its own estimate.
- Your site is really an application - accounts, dashboards, integrations: that is web application development.
- You need a design no one else has: a custom website.
For everything else, a $499 site is the honest start. All our starting prices are on the pricing page.
